trans:migration (2012)
trans:migration is a collaborative audio/visual installation inspired by the life and writings of the Scottish-born naturalist, author and pioneer of wilderness preservation, John Muir.
Niroshini collaborated with documentary filmmaker Sana Bilgrami, photographer Anne Binckebanck and members of city-based community groups to explore ideas of belonging and connection to nature in Scotland. Material was generated from both first and second generation migrant experience and used John Muir as inspiration. Transmigration is a collage of photography, film, music, audio and creative writing generated by a series of encounters with landscapes along the John Muir Way in East Lothian. Exhibited at the Mela Festival 2012 and Luminate Festival of Creative Ageing 2012. Commissioned by the Edinburgh Mela.
'...the landscape beaming with consciousness like the face of a God....making sap and blood flow fast and every particle...
throb and swirl and dance in glad accord like star-dust.'       John Muir

'Love the sound of water flowing in and out; stillness skyline; the contrast of the white clouds against the blue sky; wind gently blowing on my face; the bright sunlight; the sunshine is making the water on the beach to look like glitter;
I become aware of my shadow walking beside me so to speak; wind blowing sound like a river at times, I see big waves, birds singing in the trees; feeling very peaceful, swishing sound of wind passing through the grass and trees.
I am so glad I took part in this trip. It is good for the soul to connect with nature.'
